Kung pao sauce is one of the most popular stir-fry sauces. This versatile recipe is sweet and tangy and complements veggies, chicken, shrimp, pork, and more. Try this stir-fry sauce today and elevate your dish! This sauce is trendy and used in Chinese restaurants.

With a bit of work, you can make this easy recipe at home and enjoy this homemade Kung Pao sauce recipe anytime you want. Elevate dinner tonight with this sweet and spicy sauce.

You might also know Kung Pao as Chinese brown sauce or even stir-fry seasoning. It’s a thick and creamy sauce that sticks to the veggies and meat for insane flavor! I love pairing it with stir-fry ingredients and diced-up chicken breast. Pair it with some jasmine rice and dive in with a fork first.

It’s so simple to make, and you will love the homemade flavor compared to the bottled sauce. One of the popular recipes is this Panda Express Kung Pao Chicken. Now, you can make it at home for a fraction of the cost.

This is a thick Kung Pao sauce that really smothers the chicken pieces or veggies you pair it with. You can also make an easy Kung Pao shrimp or even Kung Pao beef instead of chicken.

Why this sauce is a must-make

Pantry Ingredients—Raid your pantry, and you might already have all the ingredients! These super simple ingredients combine for one epic homemade stir-fry sauce.

Quick to Make—This sauce is ready to use in minutes. That is what I love—a no-fuss recipe that is quick and simple to make.

Incredible Flavor—I use bottled sauce a lot, but for stir-fries, homemade sauce truly gives your meat and veggies a whole new level of flavor.

Panda Express Kung Pao Sauce—This is a great swap for the jarred sauce you can buy. I share how to achieve a spicier version, or you can keep it mild if you prefer.

Make Ahead of Time—You can make this sauce ahead of time. Whip it up and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.

ingredients for kung pao sauce on table in glass bowls

Ingredients Needed

Soy sauce—Soy sauce is the main flavor of the sauce. It is tangy and salty, and it helps balance out the sweetness. If you need to reach for a low-sodium soy sauce, you should watch your sodium intake, as regular soy sauce contains quite a bit of salt.

Granulated Sugar—You can add less or more of this ingredient to adjust the sweetness of your sauce. The sugar also helps balance out all the other ingredients.

Rice Vinegar—I am obsessed with rice wine vinegar. It is a delicious vinegar that enhances flavors. However, it isn’t as stout as, say, a classic distilled vinegar.

Cornstarch and Water—These two ingredients make a slurry for the sauce. As the sauce cooks and is heated, it will begin to thicken. Then, the sauce will stick to your eggless meat or even noodles.

Sesame Oil—Sesame oil has a nutty flavor and aroma that helps the sauce stand out in flavor. It is used in many cuisines.

How To Make

The printable recipe card below contains full directions on how to make Kung Pao sauce. It also includes a walkthrough with images to help.

steps on how to make stir fry sauce
  1. First, add the granulated sugar and cornstarch to a bowl and stir to mix a bit.
  2. Next, add the rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and water.
  3. Whisk until the ingredients are fully combined. Then, store the sauce in the fridge until ready to use. You can also stir it in with stir-fry veggies, chicken, pork, etc.

How To Use Sauce

  •  Sauté veggies in a skillet. Once close to done, stir in Kung Pao at the end and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce is thickened. Red peppers, green bell peppers, water chestnuts, fresh ginger, broccoli, snap peas, etc.
  • Cube the tofu and cook it in a skillet. Feel free to add veggies as well. Then, stir the sauce in at the end to flavor the dish.
  • Pour sauce in the last 1-2 minutes of cooking. You can mix it with beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, etc., or just meat or add other veggies you like.
  • Make my Kung Pao Chicken recipe.
  • Add a little of the sauce to ramen noodles for a doctored-up version. You can toss in additional ingredients or do noodles and sauce.
  • To add spice to this tangy sauce, add some red or Sichuan chili peppers for a spice boost. This will really give your Chinese dishes a bold, spicy flavor.

Storing

Refrigerate—Once mixed, this sauce needs to be refrigerated. You can make the sauce and keep it for almost a week. Stir well before cooking.

Freezing—You can freeze your Kung Pao stir-fry sauce for 2 months. Just place it in a freezer bag or airtight container. Thaw in the fridge overnight, then reheat in the microwave or warm in a skillet. I prefer to heat it on the stovetop.

Expert Tips and Variations

  • Add in dried chilies for a nice spicy component to the sauce. You can also use red chili flakes as well.
  • Mix with snap peas, broccoli, peppers, onions, etc. Or dice up chicken, shrimp, etc.
  • Top your dish with some green onions for a garnish and add flavor. Same with sesame seeds.
  • For a gluten-free option, reach for coconut aminos to replace soy sauce.
  • Top with cashews or peanuts once mixed with other food for a nice crunch.
  • Make sure the pan or wok is nice and hot before you add the meat or vegetables to create that nice sear. I like to use medium to medium-high heat.
  • If you do not want to use corn starch, you can swap it with xanthan gum.
  • Dark soy sauce can be used, but it will be bolder in flavor.
  • Red pepper flakes elevate the spice factor. So, if you enjoy spicy food, try adding some peppers.
  • If you want to elevate your sauce, sear some bok choy, yellow onion, bell peppers, broccoli, peas, and more to add tons of flavor to your dish. Once the veggies are cooked, toss the sauce in at the end and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.

Hot honey is a type of honey that has been infused with chili peppers or other spicy ingredients to give it a sweet and spicy flavor. Learn how to make hot honey at home and use it when you please. Such a quick and easy spicy honey recipe. This hot honey sauce is a must for your chicken wings, and favorite dishes, or even elevate any dish with this spicy condiment. This has easily become one of our favorite pantry staples.

This hot honey condiment is often used as a topping for food such as pizza, fried chicken, and biscuits, or as a glaze for meats such as ham or pork. Some people also use hot honey as a dipping sauce for vegetables or as a condiment for sandwiches. The heat level of hot honey can vary depending on the type of chili pepper or spices used, so it can range from mild to very spicy.

Why people love hot honey…

Overall, hot honey offers a unique blend of flavors and versatility that appeals to many people, making it a popular condiment.

  • Flavor: The combination of sweet and spicy flavors in hot honey appeals to many people’s taste buds and adds a unique twist to traditional honey. A whole lot of sweet honey with some heat in each bite. The honey mixture is truly a perfect pairing. The best part you control how much heat you have. So make it medium heat, hot, or even mild based on your preference of the spicy hot honey.
  • Versatility:  Hot honey can be used in a variety of ways, such as a topping, glaze, dipping sauce, brussels sprouts, dip French fries, chicken fingers, drizzle on homemade biscuits, Greek yogurt, avocado toast, breakfast sandwiches, or condiment, making it a versatile addition to many different dishes.
  • Heat level: Some people enjoy the heat from the chili peppers or spices in hot honey and find it adds an extra layer of flavor to their food.
  • Health benefits: Honey is known for its natural antibacterial and antioxidant properties, and adding spices to it can also provide additional health benefits, such as reducing inflammation and boosting the immune system.

🍯Ingredients You Will Need

Honey: Use high-quality, raw honey for the best flavor. If you can get your hands on local honey I recommend that. If not feel free to use whatever brand you like for this homemade hot honey recipe.

Chili peppers: You can use any type of chili pepper to make hot honey, such as red pepper flakes, dried chili peppers, or fresh chilis. The hot peppers are of course the heat in the recipe. I used dried chili flakes but feel free to adjust to what you have and for the spicy level you would prefer for your jar of hot honey.

Vinegar: A small amount of vinegar, such as apple cider vinegar, can help to balance out the sweetness of the honey.

🐝 Variations To Recipe

  • Spices: Some recipes call for additional spices, such as garlic, ginger, or black pepper, to add extra flavor.
  • Salt: A pinch of salt helps to enhance the flavors of the honey and chili peppers.
  • Honey: If you want to change up the flavor instead of a basic clover honey, reach for an orange blossom honey or other flavored honey for added sweetness paired with the heat. So it creates a new level of a little sweet heat.

Pro Tip: If you are looking for a honey jar, you can find all types to buy. No drip jars, classic honey jars, and more. I love all the options.

🫙How to Make

Full directions on how to make this hot honey recipe is in the printable recipe card, which is at the bottom of the post.

  • In a small saucepan add all three ingredients.
  • Turn on medium-low heat and bring to a simmer. Once the sauce is simmering, remove from the heat.

✅ Tips for Success

Here are some tips for making delicious homemade hot honey:

Heat level: Control the heat level of your hot honey by adjusting the amount of chili peppers you use. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.

Infuse the flavors: Simmer the honey and chili peppers over low heat for 10-15 minutes to fully infuse the flavors. This will also help to soften the chili peppers, making them easier to strain.

Drizzle your hot honey over this creamy skillet corn to elevate the flavor.

🥄 Storing Honey

Store in an airtight container: Once cooled, store your hot honey in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last for several months.

Freezing: Freezing the honey is a good way to preserve its flavor and texture, and it also makes it easier to store. To freeze hot honey, simply transfer it to an airtight container or a freezer-safe bag and place it in the freezer. When you’re ready to use it, simply thaw it in the refrigerator or at room temperature.

It’s important to note that freezing honey can change its texture and cause it to become thicker and more syrupy. This can be remedied by stirring the spicy honey or warming it up slightly to restore its original consistency.

Overall, freezing hot honey is a convenient and effective way to preserve it for later use. Just make sure to store it in an airtight container to prevent freezer burn.

ingredients with fresh herbs and dried herbs in oil in glass bowls

Ingredients

Oil – Extra virgin olive oil is what I recommend using for this oil recipe.

Garlic – Fresh minced garlic is going to offer a rich flavor to the toi. You can grab garlic cloves and freshly mince or you can buy a jar.

Dried Herbs – Basil and oregano are the two herbs I used, that offer that vibrant Italian seasoning flavor.

Red Peppers – Crushed red pepper flakes are going to add a kick of spice which is a great addition to the oil.

Salt – Tossing in a pinch of salt is going to help bring out all the flavors of the oil.

How to Make

  1. In a large mixing bowl add olive oil, garlic, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, and salt.
  2. Mix well to combine.
  3. Use right away, or store in the fridge until you are ready to serve it up.

  • Finely chop sundried tomatoes and add into the oil mixture for a richer flavor.
  • Sprinkle with toasted pine nuts, almonds, or even walnuts for a nice crunch.
  • Mix in some parmesan cheese or pecorino cheese for a tangy version.
  • Chop up some olives and mix in. You can use green olives or Kalamata.
  • Add a splash of balsamic vinegar to the oil mixture.
  • Flaky sea salt will add more flavor than table salt.
  • Whisk in honey with a sweet flavor to the savory.

Dippers For This Dip

Reach for your favorite Artisan bread, French baguette, sourdough bread, artichoke hearts, fresh focaccia bread, or even more dippers of choice. You will find that this herb-infused oil is a must-try. You can even use this as a light salad dressing to a green salad. This is a good olive oil dip that can be used for many options.

Expert Tips

  • Quality ingredients are recommended. I find the better quality ingredients the more vibrant dip.
  • You can balance the oil with a splash of lemon juice and salt if you want to have a more well-rounded flavor to your dip.
  • Have fun and try out different flavors by adding different herbs and spices to the bread oil dip.
  • Stir in some lemon zest for a citrus zing to the dip and it will help brighten up the flavor.
  • Raw garlic offers the best flavor. You are welcome to use sautéed garlic for a perfect balance of flavors to the herb bread dip.
  • Do not use vegetable oil for this dip.

Storing

Refrigerate the oil for up to two weeks in the fridge. I like to place the dip in an airtight container to help preserve the flavors of the dip. Some do keep the dip at room temperature in a pantry for around 1-2 weeks as well.

I prefer to keep it in the fridge as I find it has the best results. If you store at room temperature place in a mason jar with a sealed lid.

7 Up biscuits are fluffy biscuits that are made with Bisquick, sour cream, lemon-lime soda, and a stick of butter. These melt-in-your-mouth tender biscuits are a hit.  I used 7 Up but you are welcome to use Sprite or another type of lemon lime soda. These easy 7-up biscuits are a great side dish or spoon sausage gravy over the top of these flaky biscuits.

You might also know these biscuits as angel biscuits, swim biscuits or butter swim biscuits. They are square biscuits that are baked in a pan of melted butter. The lemon lime soda is the secret ingredient to give the ultimate fluffy biscuit texture.

For a sweet twist, you will want to try these blackberry biscuits. Or you can try these garlic parmesan biscuits for a savory biscuit recipe.

What Are 7 Up Biscuits?

7 Up biscuits are delicious and savory Bisquick biscuits that are mixed and poured into a prepared baking dish. There is no cookie cutter for this biscuit mix. Simply slice with a knife and serve up these buttery biscuits that are made with simple ingredients.

Reasons Why You Will Love These Biscuits

  • Easy biscuit dough that you can whip up in a matter of minutes and get them tossed in the oven to bake up.
  • Homemade biscuits that kids and adults will both enjoy.
  • Easy biscuits that require no rolling out dough and using a cookie cutter.
  • These are some of the easiest biscuits you will ever make.
  • Fluffy texture that melts in your mouth.

Ingredients Needed

Lemon Lime Soda – Sprite, 7-Up, or even a ginger ale all work great for the soda for the recipe. The carbonation is going to really create a fluffy texture to the biscuit dough.

Butter – Salted butter is used! Make sure that it is real butter and not margarine.

Bisquick – Bisquick mix is the flour mixture used for making the biscuit dough. If you do not have Bisquick on hand learn how to make homemade Bisquick.

Sour Cream – Sour cream is going to ensure the biscuits are moist but also they add tons of flavor to the biscuit dough.

How to Make

  1. Preheat the oven as directed and prep your baking dish.
  2. Next in a large mixing bowl add your Bisquick and sour cream. Mix to create a crumble.
  3. Then add the lemon-lime soda and mix the dough. It will be sticky.
  4. Next, melt butter in the microwave. Add a bit of butter to the bottom of the pan with 1/3 cup of butter.
  5. Spoon the batter on top of the butter and spread it out to all edges of the pan.
  6. Use a knife and cut the biscuit dough into 12 square biscuits. Drizzle with the rest of the butter.
  7. Bake as directed until the golden brown color.
Sprite biscuits are stacked on a plate

Variations to Recipe

  • Shortening can be used in replace of butter. But the butter offers a better texture in my opinion.
  • Plain Greek yogurt can be used in a swap of sour cream.
  • Add a touch of honey or sugar to the batter for a sweet flavor. 2 tablespoons of sugar or 2-3 tablespoons of honey will work great.
  • Melt butter and add some minced garlic to create garlic butter biscuits.
  • Dice up jalapenos finely and mix in the dough for a spicy biscuit. Place on the dinner table as a side dish.
  • Add a little shredded chicken and then pair the biscuits with chicken pot pie soup.

Tips For Success

Don’t overmix the dough or it can make the biscuit dough heavy and dense.

Ensure you place the biscuits in a preheated oven that has been preheated for at least 5-10 minutes.

Make sure the carbonated beverage has not become stale. Otherwise, it will not create that light and fluffy texture.

The biscuits are done when you stick a toothpick in the tops of the biscuits and it comes out clean of wet batter.

Storing

I recommend refrigerating the biscuits in an airtight container. They will store for 3-4 days in the fridge. I find the flavor of the biscuits tastes best when refrigerated. You can warm it up in the microwave or the oven.

Also, you could freeze biscuits. Simply place your biscuits in a freezer container or freezer bag. The biscuits will freeze for 2-3 months.

Greek Yogurt – You can use a Greek yogurt that is plain in flavor in swap of sour cream.
Shortening – Swap the butter with shortening if you want. I find the butter is going to give more flavor to the biscuits.
Dough – If you find your dough is too wet you can add a bit more Bisquick to the dough.

Stabilized whipped cream – the perfect dessert to add to cakes, or cookies, or enjoy with fresh fruit for a delicious treat. An easy whipped cream recipe that takes your recipes to the next level. Give this stabilized whipped cream with gelatin recipe a try today.

It’s not a secret that I love a sweet treat from time to time! My Heaven on Earth Cake, cherry pineapple dump cake, and layered strawberry banana cake are just a few of my go-to dessert recipes.

While there is nothing wrong with store-bought whipped cream, I find that making homemade elevates your desserts. The rich, decadent flavor is good enough to eat with a spoon too.

What is Stabilized Whipped Cream

Stabilized whipped cream is a variation of traditional whipped cream. So the recipe uses gelatin to help form those stiff peaks that hold shape for a lot longer than a classic whipped cream.

The idea is it won’t deflate the way a classic whipped cream would. You will use stabilized whipped cream for topping pies, cookies, cakes, and other pastries and desserts. This is when you want that gorgeous presentation value of whipped cream piped on top. You might also call this a stabilized whipped cream frosting!

This Stabilized Whipped Cream Recipe Is…

  • Light and fluffy texture.
  • The perfect addition to cakes, ice cream, and other desserts.
  • Incredibly easy to make and simple ingredients you might already have on hand.
  • This works great as a whipped cream frosting as the texture is so thick.
  • Taste delicious and holds shape!
  • Only requires 5 ingredients you might already have in your pantry and fridge.

Ingredients

Gelatin Powder – For best results, use unflavored gelatin. Flavored options don’t always taste as good.

Water – The key here is to use cold water! This ensures that the gelatin blooms properly. Otherwise, it will simply dissolve and won’t turn out well.

Heavy Whipping Cream – Ideally, you need to use heavy cream that is full fat. This will allow the stabilized whipped cream to be the perfect texture.

Powdered Sugar – You need some sweetness to give it the right flavor. Make sure you use confectioners sugar instead of granulated, or it will not turn out correctly.

Vanilla – While the vanilla is optional, we highly recommend it because it adds an amazing subtle flavor.

Variations to Recipe

Flavorings – It’s fine to swap the vanilla for almond extract. You could add lemon, orange, or lime extract for a fun citrus twist.

Fruit – Once you have prepared the whipped cream, it’s fine to fold in some of your favorite fruit. Strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are a few ideas.

Cream Cheese – Mix in some softened cream cheese to add a rich, tangy flavor! It’s excellent and pairs great with the other flavors in the whipped cream.

How to Make

Full directions on how to make stabilized whipped cream can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. This is a quick walk-through.

  1. Combine the gelatin and cold water together in a microwave-safe bowl. Whisk well and set aside.

  1. Add to your favorite dessert immediately or chill until you are ready to use.

Expert Tips for Making Stabilized Whipped Cream

  • Don’t skip blooming – It’s vital that you allow the gelatin to sit with cold water for a few minutes before you begin. This keeps the whipped cream smooth and not lumpy.
  • Chill the bowl – Using a chilled metal bowl will help speed up the process of making the whipped cream.
  • Cold whipping cream – Another key element is using cold heavy whipping cream. Room temperature or warmth will lead to runny whipped cream that doesn’t set up correctly.
  • Take your time – Whatever you do, don’t rush adding in the gelatin. When you go slowly, it gives the gelatin mixture a chance to incorporate into the other ingredients fully.

Storing

Keep chilled in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. If you are planning to decorate with it, it’s best to use it right away and save leftovers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I freeze homemade whipped cream?

Yes and no! Technically, you can freeze it if it’s already added to cupcakes, or whatever you are decorating. However, once it’s frozen you can really thaw it and decorate with it. You could use an ice cream scoop to add a dollop to whatever you are serving, but I don’t recommend trying to pipe it on anything.

Is it okay to add food coloring?

Sure! If you would like to add some color to the stabilized whipped cream, feel free to add a few drops of gel coloring. Be sure to add it when you begin to mix the whipped cream or it may cause curdling.

Can I double this recipe?

Of course! Simply double or even triple the ingredients, depending on how much you need.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin powder
  • 4 teaspoons cold water
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a small microwave safe bowl you will add your water and the gelatin. Stir to combine and then let it sit.
  • In a large bowl you will add the heavy cream, powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix on medium-high speed until it begins to thicken. This takes a few minutes. (Don't let it get to the stiff peak texture)
  • Next you will take your gelatin and add to the micrwoave and heat for 5 seconds. Stir and make sure the gelatin is melted, if not heat another 5 seconds.
  • Slowly drizzle in the gelatin while the mixer is whipping on medium speed.
  • Once all the gelatin is mixed in, up the speed to medium-high and whip until stiff peaks form. Once it is nice and thick use right away or refrigerate in an airtight container in the fridge.

Notes

Flavor – If you want to add flavor you can add in almond extract or even a fruit extract to alter the flavor even more.
Gelatin – This needs to be unflavored powder gelatin to allow the whipped cream to become nice and thick and hold shape.
Cold Bowl – Allowing your bowl to sit in the freezer for an hour before you begin mixing is going to help make the whipped cream whip up a lot faster. It isn’t something you have to do but it is helpful.
Storing – Store any of the stabilized whipped toppings in the fridge in a sealed container. The whipped topping will store for 2-3 days in the fridge.

Homemade fresh salsa recipe is an easy 10-minute side dish that is filled with hearty tomatoes, red onions, spicy jalapenos, tangy lime juice, and cilantro! This no-cook salsa is the perfect side to any meal.

What makes my easy salsa recipe the best is that I always use fresh ingredients instead of canned ones. So the result is incredible every single time! Try this chunky salsa for dipping in chips, topping tacos, and more.

homemade salsa in a bowl garnished with cilantro

Trust me when I say you aren’t going to want to miss my fresh watermelon salsa, strawberry salsa, or mango salsa. They are all delicious and easy to make too!

Why you will enjoy homemade salsa…

Here are some reasons why I love serving this easy salsa recipe! Give it a try!

  • Only 7 ingredients!
  • Made with fresh produce.
  • The perfect combination of spicy and tangy.
  • An easy dish or appetizer for any time of year!
  • A crowd favorite at potlucks, barbecues, and parties.
ingredients for salsa on table. Tomatoes, red onion, jalapeno, lime, cilantro, and salt and pepper

Ingredients

Tomatoes – I recommend using Roma tomatoes because they are sturdy and hold up well. They don’t become mushy as other varieties of tomatoes get.

Onion – My preference is red onion because it adds a pop of color and tastes great too. It’s also fine to go with a sweet onion instead.

Jalapenos – For spicier jalapenos, look for peppers with slightly wrinkly skin and with fine lines on the outside. They tend to be much hotter!

Lime – Not only does a juiced lime add flavor, but it also keeps the ingredients nice and fresh!

Cilantro – You really can’t swap the cilantro for anything but fresh. Dried cilantro doesn’t have that kick of flavor most people are looking for in good guacamole.

Salt & Pepper – Feel free to add more or less depending on how you like it!

Variations to Recipe

  • Cucumbers – Chop up some cucumber pretty finely. It adds to the texture and tastes great too.
  • Bell Peppers – Another tasty ingredient you can add to this salsa recipe is bell peppers.
  • Charred Corn – If you are looking for a unique addition, go for some charred corn. It tastes fabulous and looks great too.
  • Seasonings – Feel free to add any of your favorite seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or a dash of cayenne pepper.

How to Make

Expert Tips For Making Salsa

  • Always choose ripe ingredients – Because this salsa is made with fresh vegetables, picking what is ripe is important to get the most flavor.
  • Adjust the spiciness – If you like it extra hot, mix in more jalapenos or add some red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to taste.
  • Don’t skip the lime juice – It helps balance the flavors of the tomatoes and onions. You can swap it for lemon juice if you are out of limes.
  • Let the salsa rest – While you can serve it right away, allowing it to sit for an hour or so gives the flavors time to develop more.
  • Chop Salsa – I made chunky salsa. You are welcome to add ingredients to a food processor and pulse lightly to make a smoother salsa if you prefer. The size of the ingredients does change the flavor.

Storing

In the fridge, keep the salsa in a sealed container for up to 3-5 days. Give the salsa a stir before you go and use it to ensure all the flavors incorporate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you freeze salsa?

Yes, it’s fine to freeze homemade salsa! Place it in a freezer-safe container, only filling 2/3 full. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge before serving. Be sure to stir well and enjoy! Just know the texture will be softer once it is thawed from being frozen.

Is it okay to use canned tomatoes?

While I prefer using fresh tomatoes, it’s fine to use canned. The flavor won’t be as bold, but it will still be good. Chop them up or buy petite diced canned tomatoes.

What do I serve with homemade salsa?

Serve with traditional tortilla chips, or add it to some eggs for a fun spin! It’s also excellent on tacos, stuffed in burritos, added to salads, or mixed into casseroles. Another great option is to serve it with salmon, grilled chicken, or a juicy steak.

Ingredients

  • 5 Roma tomatoes
  • ½ red onion
  • 1 jalapeno pepper
  • 1 lime juiced
  • 2 tbsp cilantro chopped
  • ¼ salt or to taste,
  • ¼ black pepper or to taste

Instructions

  • Dice your tomatoes into bite sized pieces and add to a large bowl.
  • Next you will finely dice the red onion, and toss in the bowl. Then add in some diced jalapeno pepper and chopped cilantro.
  • Squeeze in your lime juice and season well with salt and pepper. Mix well and then let refrigerate for 30 minutes or so. Then toss well and serve up with tortilla chips, top tacos, quesadillas, or more.

Notes

Texture – This is a very chunky salsa. You are more than welcome to add items to a food processor to make a smoother texture. Or you can chop it smaller for a different texture.
Jalapeno – Leave some of the seeds for a spicy salsa. Or remove the seeds and the white membrane to create a mild salsa.
Onion – If you don’t have red onion you can easily swap with a white or yellow onion.
Salt and Pepper – Season with salt and pepper to taste. You also can use a salt substitute if you need.

Did you know with heavy cream and salt you can make homemade butter and buttermilk? It takes just 10 minutes to churn your own butter and make homemade buttermilk as well. Soft, creamy, spreadable and delightfully delicious. This old-time activity is especially fun for kids. Learn how to make butter in about 10 minutes give or take.

You might have seen on the internet where you use a mason jar to shake the heavy cream and make it into butter. And you could do that, but this butter recipe uses a stand mixer to make the prep of making butter easier.

Benefits of making homemade butter…

  • All you need is heavy cream for unsalted butter. Or add salt and you have a salted butter.
  • Fun activity for kids to help make.
  • Great for spreading on homemade bread, rolls, etc.
  • Delicious flavor and no preservatives.

Ingredients Needed

Here is all you need for making butter at home. Simple and easy!

Cream – Reach for a bottle of heavy cream at the grocery store.

Salt – This is optional. It will create a salted butter.

How To Make Butter With Stand Mixer

Full steps on how to make butter at home are in the featured printable recipe card at the very bottom of the post. This is a visual walk through for readers.

  1. Start by pouring your heaving cream into a stand mixer.
  2. Whip on medium speed with the whisk attachment. You can start slow and work your way to medium if it splashes. Next you will continue to mix, until you see that a butter is formed. It will start by creating clumps, and allowing it to continue to whisk will form butter.

  1. At around the 10 minute mark you will see butter and then buttermilk in the bowl. Remove the butter and place the buttermilk in a separate container.
  2. Add salt if you want a salted butter and mix to combine.

Store the butter in one container and buttermilk in another.

How to Make Butter In Mason Jar

  1. Add butter to a mason jar and seal tightly with a lid.
  2. Next begin shaking, this can take 15-20 minutes. It will for sure wear your arms out.
  3. Shake until butter is formed and the buttermilk is created.
  4. Store or enjoy the fresh butter right away!

Variations

Honey Butter

Add in 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup honey to 1 cup of butter. Now if you don’t want it too sweet you can do less. But the more honey the richer the flavor. I recommend making it with less then slowly adding more honey to taste.

Garlic Butter

For 1/2 cup butter add 2 garlic cloves that are minced, 1 teaspoon fresh parsley minced, and 1/2 teaspoon salt and mix to combine.

Tips for Success

Whipped Butter

If you just remove the butter from the mixer and then keep the butter in that form it will be more of a whipped butter.

Washing Butter

You might have heard of washing butter. This is where you add butter to a bowl of ice water. Let it soak for just a minute then lift it out of the water and squeeze the butter over the bowl with the buttermilk. This will release even more buttermilk.

Then repeat this step 3-4 times. It will create a firmer butter, instead of soft like the whipped version above.

Mix, Mix, and Mix More

Don’t give up on mixing. Making butter takes quite a bit of time to get the butter to begin to form. Have patience as it will take a bit of time. But once you see your butter forming continue whipping to get as much butter as you can out of the cream.

Cheesecloth

For washing the butter or shaping you might find that cheesecloth is a great way to squeeze the butter and create a round butter. You can use whatever you like but I find cheesecloth works best for me.

Storing

Refrigerate – This butter will need to be refrigerated in a sealed container. I tend to recommend storing butter in a glass container so it doesn’t pick up odors in the fridge through plastic.

Also wrapping the butter in parchment paper or even wax paper will help preserve the flavor even better. Use the butter within 5 days of making it.

Use the butter anyway you would like. From buttering biscuits, pancakes, to toast, and using in other recipes.

Freezing – You can freeze the butter as well for up to 6 months. Wrap the butter in parchment or wax paper and then place in a freezer bag or freezer container. Keep the butter at the back of the freezer so when you open and close the door it doesn’t affect how froze the butter is.

Then thaw in the fridge the night before you plan to use.

Dried Oregano

Sea Salt

Chicken Stock (or vegetable stock for a vegetarian option)

How to Make

mixing up the enchilada sauce in a skillet

Step One: Make Roux

In a saucepan on the stovetop you will want to heat oil on medium high heat. Add the flour and oil and cook for 1 minute. You need to whisk constantly or it will burn.

Mixing up the flour is cooking out the flavor of the flour.

Step Two: Add in Seasoning

Reduce heat to medium-low and then add in all the seasonings and cook another minute or two.

Step Three: Add in Stock and Simmer

Next you will whisk in the stock mixing constantly to prevent lumps. You will want to simmer the sauce on medium low heat. You want the sauce to lightly bubble for about 10 minutes.

The sauce will thicken as it cooks down, and then you can taste and add additional salt or seasonings to adjust the flavor to your liking.

Tip: Once the sauce is done you will use the enchilada sauce for your preferred recipes.

Variations to Enchilada Sauce

  • Use less chili powder if you are sensitive to spice.
  • Use ancho chili powder for a spicy sauce if you like heat.
  • Add in some red chilis for more of a little kick.
  • If you find that your sauce isn’t thick enough to your liking add a little modified corn starch to thicken sauce.
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon brown sugar to sweeten the sauce a bit.

Storing Sauce

Refrigerate – You can refrigerate any of the extra sauce in the fridge in an airtight container. The sauce can last up to five days in the fridge.

Freezing – Now if you want you can even make extra sauce and freeze it. Freeze in a freezer bag or freezer container for up to three months. Then thaw in the fridge overnight. Or thaw in the microwave.

Ingredients and Supplies

Cake – You can make any flavor of cake you would like for this recipe. Do a homemade cake or reach for your favorite boxed cake mix.

Piping Bags – You will want to use a handful of piping bags. For each different colors of the frosting you will place in each separate bag. you can place in each separate bag.

Piping Tips – So for this, I used a variety of Wilton Tips for all the different shapes of the flowers. I used tips 4B, 1M, 2D, and 104 tips. You are more than welcome to use any tips you prefer.

Buttercream – I used a buttercream frosting or any style of thick and creamy frosting.

9×13 Cake Pan – You can use a 9×13 pan, or if you want to make a layered cake go right ahead.

How to Make

Full directions are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post. This is a quick walk through on how to make a sheet cake with flowers.

Step One: Start by mixing up and bake your cake. Once your cake is done remove and allow it to cool completely.

Step Two: Next you will work on making your buttercream frosting. Then separate the frosting into a few bowls and add different colors of food coloring to each bowl. Mix to your desired colors.

Step Three: Put each color of frosting in your piping bags with different shaped tips. I will share my tips below on what I used.

cake with flowers tutorial

Step Four: I started adding large rosettes using size 1M or 2D, which are star tips. Pipe out a star then make a tight circle around the star, to give it the rosette look.

Step Five: Next you can make a drop flower with a 4B tip. and then add in different designs as you would like.

Step Six: The key to this is making sure to fill the whole cake with designs of flowers, zigzag lines, and such. It will give you a nice full look.

floral cake in pan side view

Step Seven: Once the cake is frosted fully, add on some sprinkles if you would like.

Helpful Tips For Piping Frosting

  • Never drag your piping bag or tip against the cake, or it will create cake crumbs potentially.
  • Try to use steady pressure when you are adding your designs to the cake.
  • If you lift up while squeezing it will mess up your design on the cake and make a mess.
  • I used the 4B tip to make drop flowers in spots that were bare. It was what I used last to fill in at the end.

Storing Cake

Depending on the type of frosting you can either refrigerate the cake, or store at room temperature. I find that keeping your cake in the fridge helps to extend the shelf life of the cake and helps frosting from breaking down.

You can also freeze the cake if you would like. Simply place in a freezer friendly container and freeze for 3-4 months. Then thaw on the counter or in the fridge overnight.

  • 1 1/2 pounds powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • pinch of salt
  • 4-5 food colorings

Instructions

  • In a stand mixer you will want to add your butter in and mix for 6-7 minutes on medium high speed.
  • Next lower the speed to low and slowly add your salt and powdered sugar, mixing until incorporated. Make sure to scrape down the sides of bowl.
  • Add in the vanilla and cream, and mix on low.

This Coleslaw Dressing Recipe Is…

  • Creamy Coleslaw Dressing
  • Tangy with a Hint of Sweetness
  • Easy To Whip Up
  • Quick To Whip Up

Ingredients

Mayonnaise – You are welcome to use Miracle Whip instead of mayo if you would prefer.

Apple Cider Vinegar – Instead of apple cider you can swap with a white vinegar or even a wine vinegar.

Dijon Mustard – Dijon is a nice mild mustard that won’t over power the coleslaw dressing.

Honey – The honey is going to add a nice bit of sweetness to the dressing. Now you can swap with granulated sugar if you would like.

Celery Seed – The celery seed really elevates the flavor of the dressing and makes it stand out even more.

Salt and Pepper – Season with salt and pepper to taste.

How to Make

Full measurements and steps on how to make this creamy coleslaw recipe are in the printable recipe card. This is a quick walk through on how to make this simple recipe.

Step Two: Taste and then add additional salt and pepper to taste.

Step Three: Next you will mix with shredded coleslaw. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours and then serve when you are ready.

Variations To Dressing

There are so many ways to change up this easy coleslaw recipe. Simple ingredients that can be changed up to elevate the recipe. I tend to store my dressing in a mason jar that is sealed tightly. But any container does work.

  • Add in 1 teaspoon of lemon juice for additional tangy component.
  • Instead of cabbage try a broccoli slaw instead.
  • Top with some diced green onion right before serving.
  • Use white wine vinegar, red wine vinegar, or distilled white vinegar instead of APV.
  • Do half mayonnaise and half sour cream.
  • Chopped cabbage is going to make it easier to eat.
  • Pure maple syrup can be used instead of honey.

Storing Leftovers

Refrigerate – Any coleslaw vinegar dressing you don’t use can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. The dressing will store for up to 3-5 days. I do recommend making the dressing and then pairing with the cabbage mix after.

That way it works on breaking down the cabbage and blending the flavors.

You can store these eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator. If you place them in an ice bath to cool down from being cooked, just know some of the coloring will wash off.

The color will be more pastel than vibrant. But it is up to you if you want to do an ice water bath or not.

Expert Tips and Variations

Here are some tips and tricks to set you up for success with this coloring easter eggs with food dye recipe.

  • Use liquid food coloring. I just didn’t have any and that is why I used gel. I think the liquid would offer an even coating.
  • Make as many or as few as you would like.
  • Use a larger pan or bowl to place in the pressure cooker to color one color of the egg.
  • Make sure the water covers all of the eggs. I had just a tiny tip in a few sticking out and that was okay.
  • Use a Negg for easy pealing of your hard-boiled eggs!

Instant Pot Easter Egg Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons white distilled vinegar
  • 12 eggs
  • water
  • Food Coloring I did 4 colors

Instructions

  • Start by adding 2 tablespoons of white distilled vinegar into each of the 4 mason jars. Then add in some food coloring. I did a good amount as I wanted bolder colored eggs.
  • Stir the vinegar and food coloring around to combine it.
  • Add 2-3 eggs in each of the mason jars, and then place the mason jars on a trivet inside the Instant Pot.
  • Add water to each mason jar, covering the eggs all the way. It is okay if a tiny bit of the top of an egg is sticking out.
  • Then add 1 1/2 cup water into the bottom of the Instant Pot.
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot and make sure the valve is set to sealing. Pressure cook high manual pressure for 5 minutes with a natural release of 15 minutes.
  • Remove any remaining pressure and open your lid. Carefully remove eggs with tongs from the mason jars.
  • Place on a paper towel to dry. Then refrigerate the eggs until you are ready to use them.

Notes

Ice Bath: Doing an ice bath with the eggs will remove some of the colorings of the eggs. It is up to you if you do that or not.
Edible: You can eat these hard-boiled eggs. Just store in the fridge until you are ready to put it out on display.
Food Coloring: You can use liquid food coloring as well, it would do great. I just didn't have any at the time I made these.

Canning Tools I Recommend

Ingredients

  • 6 cups strawberries crushed
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 box Powder Pectin – low sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mint optional

Instructions

  • In a sturdy pot you will add in your crushed strawberries, and mint if you choose to add it. Start warming up the canning pot with water, if you plan to can the jam.
  • Then stir in 1/4 cup of sugar, and your box of pectin. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring continuously.
  • Once it boils add in the remaining sugar, and stir once again allowing it to boil for 1 full minute.
  • Remove from heat and pour into your sterilized hot jars. Leave room of the top of the jar for the jelly to expand (1/4 inch) Wipe away any spiage around the edge.
  • Place the disc on the top of mason jar, and screw the ring on. Don’t make it super tight just enough to have it screwed on.
  • Place your mason jars in your canning pot that is filled with hot water. Make sure there is 1-2 inches of water covering the jars. Bring to a boil for 10 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the jars, and place on a towel lined cooling rack and allow the jars to sit overnight. The seals will pop once they are sealed tight. You can push down on the center of the jam jars, and not hear a pop.

Notes

How to Sterilize Jars

  1. You will want to use sterilized jars, when you can. Place the jars and lids in a canning pot, with the rack on the bottom. If you don’t own a rack place a cake pan under, if the jars touch bottom of pot they will break.
  2. Then cover the jars with water, and bring to a simmer and heat for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Once done, remove jars and then fill with the hot jelly. I tend to sterilize jars while I am making the jam or jelly, that way the jars are warm when I pour in the jam.
You need warm jars to pour jam in, or if the jars are too cool they will break from the hot jam.
Store jam in the fridge if you do not can, or freeze the jam.
I used pint size jars, but any size jar you have or want will work.

Step 6: Brush each dough with olive oil. Then take a pan and heat on medium to high heat on the stove. Once the pan is hot place the oil side down on the bread into the pan.

Step 7: Cook for 2 minutes or until the top is bubbly, and the bottom is a light brown. Brush the top side with oil, then flip over and repeat until the other side is golden brown as well.

Step 8: Remove from the pan and allow to cool. Then serve up slightly warm, or cool completely.

Storage

Once your homemade flatbread has fully cooled you can then transfer into an airtight container or sealable bag.

I personally refrigerate my bread as it helps to extend the shelf life. Then warm up in the microwave or wrap in aluminum foil and heat up in the oven.

In terms of freezing you can freeze any leftovers you may have. Simply freeze for 3 months, and then thaw the refrigerator.

Variations

  • Change up the herbs and spices you use to mix in the dough. Go plain or dress it up with Mediterranean flavor, Italian spices, etc.
  • You can double the recipe if you want to make a larger batch of flatbread. This recipe makes 10 servings.
  • Greek Plain Yogurt or just a classic plain yogurt works well with this recipe.

Expert Tips

  • Make sure you allow your yeast to activate, or you will not end up with light and fluffy naan flatbread.
  • Cook the bread until it offers that golden color you know. If your heat seems to high lower the temperature.
  • You can also grill the flatbread instead of using a pan on the stove.

  • For instance, if you want to add a few more ingredients, you can also add 1 teaspoon of each fennel, coriander, rosemary, and celery seed.
