What is Sangria?

Sangria is a wine cocktail that is typically made with red wine, fruits, and other spirits to create a flavored cocktail. You will mixed up the cocktail and allow it to infuse for an hour or so before serving so all the flavors blend together.

Try out a red sangria if you are a fan of red wine as well. You will find that Spanish wines are used in a red wine Sangria.

Ingredients For White Sangria

White Wine – You can use any of your favorite white wines for this recipe. Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, etc.

Rum – So you can reach for your favorite brand of rum, to elevate the flavor.

Pear Juice and Sliced Pears- Pear juice is going to offer the perfect amount of sweetness to the wine drink.

Lime Juice – The lime juice offers acid and it provides a bit of a tang to the cocktail that really brings all the flavor together.

Rosemary Sprigs – I used fresh rosemary, to decorate your cocktail and it really gives a nice look.

Sparkling Water – Sparkling water, lemon-lime soda are going to add a bubbly component to the wine-based drink.

Tips and Variations

Here are a few ways to change up this perfect holiday cocktail to change up the flavor to create the perfect Christmas Sangria recipe.

  • Reach for red wine and do a red wine winter sangria, instead of white.
  • Swap the pear with honeycrisp apple slices and apple juice for another sweet fruit option.
  • Use an apple brandy in replace of rum.
  • Add in pomegranate seeds, blood oranges, orange slices, or cranberry juice and cranberry for another winter option.
  • Do warm spices like clove and a cinnamon sticks in the holiday Sangria.
  • Do a splash of apple cider, instead of rum.
  • So I like to use ginger ale but club soda works for a less flavorful option.
  • Try out other fresh herbs like fresh mint leaves instead of rosemary leaves.

Step Three: Serve Wine

Fill the wine glass with ice, fill 3/4th way full with sangria and top with soda, and garnish with pear slices, and rosemary.

Storing

You will want to store any of your Sangria in a covered pitcher in the fridge. If you have the time it is best to allow the cocktail to blend for 3-4 hours for the best flavor.

Then you can store the cocktail for 2-3 days. Don’t add in the soda until right before serving, and same with ice. Otherwise, it will water down the cocktail.
